Donations from ASU membership, 18th Dec. 2009. Military Unit Chilliwack.
Dear Fred, to you and your members,
We wish thank you for your generous donation of $750.00 towards the support of programing for our athletes.
Special Olympics BC is a not for profit organization that operates year round in Chilliwack, providing individuals with an intellectual disability, the opportunity to enhance their lives and celebrate personal achievements through positive sport experiences.
Much like many not-for-profit organizations, Special O relies upon the generosity of the community for donations and for assistance and support.
As coaches/volunteers, we try to develop and implement sport skills training and competitive opportunities for our athletes. The Chilliwack chapter is comprised of 48 volunteers/coaches and approximately 80 athletes depending on the season. We currently support 8 activities: in winter, competitive swimming, rhythmic gymnastics, power lifting, floor hockey, bowling, curling and in summer, softball and soccer.
Here are a few principles that guide BC Special Olympics.
1- Programs are community based and efforts must be made to ensure that they are accessible to individuals who have a mental disability.
2- Our efforts must be dedicated to providing the best quality program possible given the resources available.
3- The athletes who wish to compete must meet certain minimum standards, including regular attendance at, and participation in training sessions.
Our athletes and coaches wish you and your members a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
We do appreciate your kindness and your generous donation.
